Tennis and fashion have always been closely intertwines, but in the modern, some of the biggest names on the court have taken that connection to the next level. And of all of the tennis world style stars at this year’s U.S. Open, there are perhaps no looks more hotly anticipated than those of Naomi Osaka.
The tennis champ, who will be competing for her third U.S. Open title this year, has become known for her dramatic fashion flare both on and off the court, often opting for styles that hold special significance for her, like the sweeping, floor length outfit made from vintage kimonos that she sported at Wimbledon earlier this summer.
This week, she gave fans a first taste of what’s to come sartorially at the Open, posting a set of photos along with the caption, “2026 US Open – First Practice”
The images feature Osaka inside what appears to be an empty Arthur Ashe Stadium wearing a strapless miniskirt-top combo made from fluttering orange fabric. The look includes floral embellishments at the bustline and along the bodice in diaphanous cascades.
Osaka paired the style with a pleated what shoulder bag with a series of oversized rosettes, a pair of brown, croc-embossed kitten heels that appear to be by Amina Muaddi, and, of course, her tennis racquets.
Osaka won her first U.S. Open in 2018, defeating Serena Williams in a shocking upset, and returned for the win again in 2020. “Arthur Ashe—or any court they decide to put me on—it’s special,” she told T&C in 2024 ahead of her U.S. Open return after welcoming her daughter, calling the tournament her “favorite.” “It’s a stage. I think New York, the U.S. Open, makes stars and there’s just a special type of energy there…”
Fortunately, fashion fans won’t have to wait long to see what other styles the star has in store—following this week’s qualifiers, the main drawn begins on Sunday, August 30.
