Where to go next, once you’ve visited Japan’s Big 3? May I suggest: spending 24hrs enjoying Nagano City and specifically Maruyoshi Sushi!

This is part 1 of our Chubu Region Adventures, aka. a 5 day road trip from Nagano to Kanazawa. Maruyoshi Sushi is found inside the Gondo Shopping Street in Nagoya and really just embodies charm. This feels like the sort of quiet neighbourhood sushi spot that has been here for decades, lovingly maintained, while also being tourist-friendly with an English menu. The sushi is great, fresh and good value – I particularly liked the chuutoro, the ikura (salmon roe) and the kanpachi. The owner even gave us a little good luck charm as a parting gift after our visit.
