【4K】Burdock wrapped in eel : Kyoto local cuisine – 鰻の八幡巻き 京都の郷土料理 | Japan Food guide

Burdock wrapped in eel is the local cuisine in Yawata City, Kyoto.
This is a dish made by wrapping eels and loach around a burdock that has been boiled and cooked, and then boiled or baked with sauce.
Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture, was known as the burdock production area.
In addition, it is said that natural eels were caught in this area.
At Iwashimizu-Hachimangu Shrine in Yawata City, there is an event called “Houjoue”.
Houjoue is a religious ritual that releases captured fish and birds and beasts to the field and warns them to kill.
And it is said that it was started by wrapping it with a burdock and concealing it so that river fish can be eaten at the time when it should originally refrain from killing.
