In today’s video we are staying in downtown Tokyo again hitting up the Honjo Life Safety Learning Center. Within the fire department here, groups and individuals can learn what to do in emergency situations they may face here in Japan – including fire, floods and earthquakes.
We began by picking up free tickets from inside the center and are assigned a group time (was not a long wait). From there we were taken into a room where we watched a 20 minute video about earthquakes in Japan, and what you should do if you experiences one.
Our first part of the day allowed us to learn about fire extinguishers and how to use them. We played with a simulation where we put out a fire in our living room.
Our second simulation was us seeing how much weight flood water had when you tried opened house and car doors. It was way harder than you think!
The third simulation was an earthquake simulator. Here we experienced several forms of earthquake at the 7.0 magnitude level. It felt unreal.
The last of the simulations was of a wind and rain storm. Here Akane was placed into a room and had the water come rushing in!
It was quite the experience, and one I think others would really enjoy learning about when in Tokyo.
