Otoboke Beaver, the Japanese punk band that performed at Oakland’s Mosswood Meltdown last month, apologized this week for a separate incident at a spring concert in Osaka, where a guitar thrown into the audience struck and injured a fan.
In a social media post Tuesday, Aug. 11, the group said the audience member was taken to a hospital after the April 9 show at Umeda Club Quattro. The fan received seven stitches for a forehead laceration and treatment for a cervical sprain.
Otoboke Beaver took accountability and said guitarist Yoyoyoshie threw the guitar during the Osaka performance.
The group also apologized for waiting nearly four months to publicly address the incident, saying communication with the staff handling the show’s immediate response was not quick enough.
The band said the delay added to the injured fan’s emotional burden. It said it would continue working directly with the person during their recovery.
“Our members and staff are taking this situation extremely seriously,” the band wrote. “In future performances, we will try our best to never happen again.”
Otoboke Beaver performed July 18 at Mosswood Meltdown, a punk festival at Mosswood Park in Oakland. Its lineup also included Iggy Pop, Bikini Kill, Pavement, Scowl and the Spits, among other acts.
