Shuri Castle Under Reconstruction | Quiet Walk Through Okinawa’s History

Shuri Castle is one of Okinawa’s most important cultural landmarks and the former royal palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom.

Join me for a peaceful walk up to and through Shuri Castle in Naha, exploring its historic gates, stone walls, courtyards, and the unique atmosphere of this remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This video was filmed while the castle’s main hall was still undergoing reconstruction following the devastating fire of October 2019. The restoration project offers a rare opportunity to witness history being rebuilt, with visitors able to observe parts of the reconstruction process that will disappear once the project is complete.

No commentary. No music. Just the natural sounds of Okinawa and an immersive walk through one of Japan’s most fascinating historic sites.

📍 Location:
Shuri Castle (Shurijo)
Naha, Okinawa, Japan

🎥 Filmed during ongoing restoration works prior to the castle’s scheduled full reopening in November 2026.
