Blue caves, snorkeling & tropical vibes in Okinawa, July 2026 (WHV / PVT)

Hi, I’m Calypso! It’s already been four months since I arrived in Japan on my Working Holiday Visa, and this month was all about adventure.

My boyfriend and I left Tokyo behind for a week-long road trip across Okinawa, driving from Naha to Nago and discovering a completely different side of Japan.

From exploring the iconic Churaumi Aquarium to snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Sesoko Island, surrounded by coral reefs, seaweed, and colorful tropical fish, every moment felt unreal.

I also tried scuba diving for the very first time in the famous Blue Cave. Spending an hour underwater in such a peaceful and magical place was truly a dream come true. The feeling of being surrounded by this incredible blue light and marine life was unforgettable, and I can only recommend this experience.

Of course, every adventure comes with unexpected challenges. Before leaving, we realized we had lost the official translation of our driver’s license, which is required to drive in Japan. After finding a solution, we were finally able to rent our car and explore the island beyond the usual tourist spots.

And because apparently that wasn’t enough… we somehow managed to lose the car keys in the ocean during a snorkeling trip.

To end our journey, we headed back to Naha, explored the colorful American Village, walked along the famous palm tree-lined streets, and enjoyed some delicious Okinawan ice cream before returning to Tokyo.

Okinawa completely stole my heart, and I already can’t wait to go back.

If you’re dreaming about a Working Holiday in Japan or planning your own Okinawa adventure, feel free to reach out!
