We Didn’t Expect a Japan Cruise To Be This Good
Cruises to Japan just kept getting better.
In Part Two of our Celebrity Millennium Japan and South Korea Cruise Diary, we continue one of the most fascinating cruises we have ever taken, visiting Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Kochi and the amazing Kochi Castle in Japan, before sailing across to Busan in South Korea.
This is not simply a tour of the ports. We take you with us to the major sights, share what each destination is really like for cruise passengers, try some remarkable local food and show you exactly what a cruise with celebrity either on the Celebrity Millennium or Celebrity Solstice would be like.
From the extraordinary volcanic landscape of Kagoshima, including the Volcano at Sakurajima, and the powerful history of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, including the The Atomic Bomb Dome. We experience the food, castles, gardens, temples and unexpected discoveries of Fukuoka and Kochi, this part of the journey revealed a completely different side of Japan.
We also cross the Korea Strait to explore Busan, South Korea, visiting its best known sights and discovering whether it deserves its increasingly prominent place on Japan cruise itineraries.
Along the way, Mrs Ritzy continues her determined programme of cultural exploration, local cuisine and highly selective exercise. I continue my own rather less demanding research into desserts, and a fabulous chocolate buffet!
This was the second half of our cruise aboard Celebrity Millennium, one of Celebrity Cruises’ Millennium Class ships. We share the highlights, the practical realities of sightseeing from a cruise ship and our honest impressions of every destination.
Other cruise lines who cruise to Japan include: Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, HAL Holland America, Azamara, Celebrity, Cunard, Norwegian cruise lines
In this episode:
🇯🇵 Kagoshima, Japan
We explore this dramatic city overlooking Sakurajima, one of Japan’s most famous active volcanoes, and visit the leading sights during our day in port.
🇯🇵 Nagasaki, Japan
A beautiful and deeply moving city where we visit the principal historical landmarks and discover far more than we expected.
🇯🇵 Hiroshima, Japan
We visit Hiroshima’s most important sites and take time to understand the history that has shaped this remarkable modern city.
🇯🇵 Fukuoka, Japan
One of Japan’s liveliest and most interesting cities, combining historic sights, modern neighbourhoods and an excellent food culture.
🇯🇵 Kochi, Japan
We explore Kochi’s castle, markets and local attractions, and try its famous katsuo no tataki, flame seared bonito that remains rare in the centre.
🇰🇷 Busan, South Korea
Our cruise takes us beyond Japan to Busan, where we visit the city’s leading attractions and discover what cruise passengers can realistically experience during a day ashore.
We filmed the entire journey independently and paid for our own cruise. As always, our opinions are entirely our own.
Have you cruised around Japan or visited any of these ports? Which destination would be at the top of your list? Let us know in the comments. We read them all and particularly enjoy the ones that notice things Mrs Ritzy hoped had escaped the final edit.
