Nestled in the heart of central Tokyo, Hotel Villa Fontaine Kudanshita is one of the city’s most conveniently located business hotels, with three train stations within easy walking distance: Kudanshita (6 min, Exit 5), Jimbocho (3 min, Exit A2), and Suidobashi. Operated by Sumitomo Realty & Development, this 13-story, 144-room property had floors 8 and 9 fully renovated in May–June 2026, bringing a sleek and understated interior to a longstanding Tokyo stay option.

In this review, I check into a newly renovated Moderate Twin Room (16 m²) and put every corner to the test — from the Simmons beds and ReFa haircare tool rental to the welcome drink (grape & berry vinegar, Swiss-brand coffee machine), amenity buffet, coin laundry, and convenience store just steps from the front door. The open-air atrium corridor on the upper floors gives the hotel a surprisingly residential feel.

Located within walking distance of Nippon Budokan and Tokyo Dome, this hotel is a smart base for concert-goers and sightseers alike. The surrounding Jimbocho neighborhood — Tokyo’s legendary secondhand bookshop district — is full of retro kissaten cafés and famous curry restaurants. Just across Hakusan-dori from Tokyo Dome City, the historic Kotohira-gu Tokyo Bunsha (known locally as the “Kompira-san of Suidobashi,” founded in 1793) offers a surprisingly tranquil escape.

For dinner, I visit Uogashi Tatsumiya, where the owner hand-picks fresh fish at the market each day — we enjoy fugu karaage, sashimi platter, and shishamo. The next morning I stop into CAFE & BAKERY MIYABI Jimbocho, where a Gion-born baker’s 11-hour Danish shokupan (presented to the Imperial Family) lives up to every bit of its reputation. Excellent value for the location and level of service.

    It amazes me of the complementary amenities Japan hotels offers but here in America they charge extra for a so called resort fee or a ridiculous parking fee or over priced water bottle in room. I would live in Japan in a heartbeat if I could.

    Even though the room has "only" standard unit bath, the shower wall in refined dark-brown gives somewhat luxury feeling! Huge mirror over the vanity only strengthens the sensation.
    What a nice neighbourhood btw, and as always, peace and spiritual clarity within the shrines 🙏⛩

    Hopefully you will be able to return to this beautiful and tranquil shrine, to receive your Goshuin from there. Its a wonderful looking place. This March, we went to the beautiful Koishikawa Korakuen japanese garden, and before that, we spent some time in Tokyo Dome, which was very pleasant. We didnt know it, but it was a day where there was a baseball game there, and so, many fans were coming to the stadium. The atmosphere was very good and if we had know about it before, we would have got tickets for the game (even though I know absolutely nothing about baseball). But we had a booked attraction a few hours later, so getting a last minute ticket was not an option.

    P.S. Your hotel this time is not for me. It has a nice name and is in a good location. But the window doesnt open and there is no desk and no chair 😞. I will always prefer to pay a bit more, to get things that I need in a room.

    Hello and thanks again for an incredible video!! And again another hotel hidden and affordable jewel in plain sight in the middle of Tokyo, also well comunicated with a train/metro station at small walk distance!! And I always marvel at the sight of the amenities and the pajamas…is it common in Japan if you pick one – let's say a small comb for example – and you don't use it, take it back home as a little memento? I know there's quite usual here in Spain for not waste something you picked/buy but not used at the stay. Steering back to the video and the hotel, it seems the renovation suited well to the rooms giving them a very modern touch and the folding table is a quite clever way to use the narrow space on the room, one with slim appliances to enjoy the stay!! And it's time to delve into the delicious food… and oh Goodness! that sashimi fish & seawood looked really tempting , like the fried pufferfish… and despite knowing there are extremely strict controls and training to cook and serve it, it's a thing that I don't eat for myself!! Also the café was a wonder and I enjoyed its relaxed atmosphere!! And for the top notch to finish the video, Kotohira-gu Tokyo Bunsha shrine is the peace island in the middle of bustling city… and I read recently enter a torii or temple entrance for the middle of it brings bad luck on one because it's the Deities path and we should enter or walk across it for the sides in sign of respect, is It true?? #ForEducatingMyself Love from Spain 🇪🇦🧡

    Room looked tiny at first glance but had everything you needed and a good sized bath
    The breakfast was ok the next place was much better
    So grateful you show what to do at a shrine so we can be respectful

    About to stay in this exact hotel in a few days and the exact type of room! Video gave us a good idea of the hotel and area. Got the room only, so possibility of eating out. How English/foreigner friendly are the cafes/restaurants around the area?
