Akita Day Trip: Fall Leaves, Samurai Town, & Best Pudding Ever

In this episode of Tim in Japan we take a day trip to the lovely town of Kakunodate in Japan’s Akita Prefecture. This resumes our tour of Tohoku.

Departing from Sendai Station via shinkansen, we arrive directly at Kakunodate Station. From there we take a leisurely walk into town and are greeted with some unbelievably beautiful breathtaking views of the autumn’s foliage.

We grab lunch at a nearby restaurant and try all the specialties – miso kiritanpo, silky smooth udon, and specialty oyakodon. After that, we do some more exploring, meet a local hero in the form of a humble akita dog named Bukemaru, and take in all the gorgeous sights and sounds.

Before heading out, we make one last stop at Akita Purin Tei – for what was the best Japanese pudding of our lives! Pudding flavored soft serve sitting atop a wonderfully creamy, rich, and smooth custard pudding underneath.

We round out the trip with a return to Sendai, grabbing some spaghetti napolitan, hamburg, and Japanese style chicken parmesan. Overall an excellent day full of wonderful sights, very fun exploration, and of course some delicious eats!

Season 2 of Tim in Japan continues to slowly unfold, winding our way across Tohoku’s gorgeous sights & sounds (not to mention all of the delicious Japanese food along the way). Trains, gachapon, autumn leaves, gorgeous views, and scrumptious eats – that’s what it’s all about!

This expedition to Geibikei was no exception. We made full use of our JR pass by taking the shinkansen inward, on an “off the beaten path” style adventure to one of Japan’s hidden natural wonders. I hope you enjoy this trip though the Japanese countryside!

Hey everyone, long time no see on the vlog side of things. Finally things have been settling in after the whole ruminations arc and Tim in Japan returns! Really glad and excited to share this one with you all, and hope you enjoyed the episode!

Akita was even more beautiful than I thought it would be, and I never imagined we'd meet such a wonderful pup in Bukemaru-chan. Also, was flabbergasted to find what was perhaps the best purin I've ever tasted in my life! 🍂

My plan is to get on a more regular schedule and upload some more vlogs in the upcoming weeks/months – especially excited to finally get to Tim in Japan Season 3 where we head to Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Hokkaido and more. 🗻

I've been experimenting a little more with the format and edits, and feel like I've been able to integrate a lot of what I learned lately – to increase the quality of the videos. Hopefully that comes across as you watch it.
