OWERRI – The Imo State government has restated its determination to encourage, motivate and assist youths in the state to realise their potentials and talents in their en­dowed natural gifts.

Consequently, the state has established a formidable sustain­able partnership with the Japa­nese government for the teeming vibrant resourceful youths to fully harness their talents and to achieve excellence in the practice and display of their talents.

The Commissioner for Youth Development and Talent Hunt, Dr. Emeka Mandella Ukaegbu disclosed this when he unveiled the ‘Nigeria/Japan Youth Game Creator Contest 2026’ organised by his ministry and the Office of the Special Adviser on Narcotics and Illicit drug in conjunction with the Gigbeing Inc Tokyo Japan and Ebelebe Trading In­vestment, which took place in the ITC Hall of his ministry in Owerri.

Ukaegbu, who recently visited Japan with the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Narcotics and illicit drug, Hon Ezechukwu Obonna to actualise the partnership explained that the step initiated by Governor Uzodimma was primarily put in place for the youths to explore their talents explaining that it was the governor who made it possible for him and the SA to travel to Japan to explore more opportunities for the youths to realize their gifted talents.

“My ministry is eagerly and passionately interested in the welfare of the youths to enable them excel in their worthy en­deavours and to attain greater heights.”

The Commissioner disclosed that some talented Imo youths would soon be sponsored to Ja­pan in Game Creativity by his ministry, even as he enjoined the youths in the state to avail them­selves of this opportunity pro­vided by the state governments to market themselves to the world for their own betterment.

The contest, he said, is open to all Imo youths and youths in the country in general.

Dr. Ukaegbu disclosed that the first winner of the contest would smile home with Five hundred thousand JPY + Trip to Japan, Second position; Three hundred thousand JPY + Trip to Japan and the third position, Two hundred thousand JPY + Trip to Japan, totally 1,000,000 Japanese Yen.

Speaking, the Special Advis­er on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs, Hon. Ezechukwu Obonna noted that the initiative by Governor Hope Uzodimma, if seriously embraced by the youths, would keep them meaningfully busy thus stemming the tempo of their involvement in such societal ills as drug trafficking and consump­tion of illicit drugs.

Apart from being the first governor in the country to es­tablish a Ministry of Youths Development and Talent Hunt, Obonna said that Governor Uzo­dimma was the first governor to appoint a Special Adviser on Narcotics and Illicit drug in the country.
