Rakuten Eagles took the lead in the first inning.

It was the first game for new manager Yoshihito Yoshii since taking the helm. In the first inning, with two outs and a runner on first base, McCusker hit a two-run homer to left field. Manager Yoshii clapped his hands in delight.
