American Day is an annual celebration of cultural exchange between Misawa City and Misawa Air Base. The event promotes understanding and improving relations between local Japanese people and American base community, and this year marks its 37th time running. Every year, the festivities bring in a crowd of over 60,000.

Activities are planned on the day at multiple venues including near the main gate at Misawa Air Base, Misawa City’s Ichibangai Street, Central Park, and Civic Hall.

Visitors are treated to parades, live performances, games like volleyball, cornhole, dunk tanks and bounce houses. There are also dozens of food and goods booths open throughout the day. You also won’t want to miss the planned motorcycle parade featuring 80 Harley Davidsons and 16 classic cars.

On June 20, the day before the big American Day festival, PACAF Asia-Pacific Band “Pacific Trends” and a kid’s dance performance group “Artista” will perform at the Sky Plaza in Misawa City from 3:30 p.m. to kick off the festivities.

Let’s go join the American Day to celebrate everlasting camaraderie between the local and military communities!
