TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Tourism Administration plans to offer up to NT$8,000 (US$250) in incentives to repeat international travelers to encourage return trips and boost international arrivals.

The agency said on Wednesday that repeat foreign visitors would receive NT$5,000 in travel discounts and an additional NT$3,000 if they bring a travel companion, per CNA. It will also continue promoting incentives for MICE tourism to encourage in-depth travel and business activities.

An estimated 1.5 million Japanese visitors traveled to Taiwan in 2025, an increase of more than 12% from the previous year. The figure represents a recovery to nearly 70% of pre-pandemic levels, underscoring Japan’s importance as one of Taiwan’s key source markets.

Tourism Administration Director-General Chen Yu-hsiu (陳玉秀) on Tuesday met with Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) President Ebina Kuniharu and Hankyu Travel International Chair Sakai Jun to encourage more Japanese tourists to visit Taiwan, CNA reported.

JATA announced on Tuesday the launch of a campaign encouraging more Japanese residents to travel overseas, coinciding with a reduction in Japanese passport fees beginning July 1. The Tourism Administration said the combination of Japan’s outbound travel incentives and Taiwan’s tourism promotions could further boost Japanese visitor numbers.
