The King of the Netherlands has remarked that the state visit this weekend by the Japanese Imperial couple will highlight his country’s already important relations with Japan.
King Willem-Alexander spoke to reporters from NHK and other media outlets.
The King expressed appreciation for their visit, referring to years of good relationships between the two countries and their royal and imperial families.
He expressed his expectation that the visit will open a new chapter in the history of special bilateral relations.
King Willem-Alexander recalled that he has had many opportunities to meet members of the Japanese Imperial family.
The King remarked that he was able to get to know the current Emperor and the Empress when they were Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako during their visit to the Netherlands 20 years ago. He added they have had many wonderful exchanges since then.
