Japan’s Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae will attend next week’s Group of Seven summit in France. Her trip will also include visits to Britain and Italy.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Minoru told reporters on Friday that the prime minister will leave Tokyo on Saturday and return on June 18.

Takaichi is scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the UK and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Italy. Takaichi is expected to discuss cooperation in areas including economic security.

The G7 summit opens next Monday in Evian, France.

Kihara noted that at the summit, Takaichi will make a three-point proposal for strengthening energy security, including stabilizing the crude oil market. The plan includes opposition to unjust restrictions on exports and support for boosting oil reserves.

Kihara noted that Asia is among those most affected amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. He said Japan hopes to represent the region and lead G7 discussions toward stabilizing global energy security.

He expressed hope that the summit will unify the efforts of participating leaders and demonstrate that the G7 is taking initiative in tackling global challenges.
