1. 🏚️ Hashima Island — Nagasaki（軍艦島）
Nicknamed "Battleship Island" for its silhouette, this tiny island was a coal-mining city that was once the most densely populated place on Earth. Abandoned in 1974, its crumbling concrete apartments are now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
🚢 Access: Boat / landing tours depart from Nagasaki Port (weather permitting).

2. 🚉 Former Taishi Station — Gunma（旧太子駅）
Those huge concrete arches aren't a temple — they're ore hoppers from a forgotten railway that hauled iron ore from a nearby mine. The line closed in 1970, and the station has been preserved as an eerie, beautiful ruin.
🚗 Access: By car from Nakanojo Station area (Gunma).

3. 🪨 Sasebo Fortress — Nagasaki（佐世保要塞）
A network of stone and brick tunnels, magazines and gun batteries built over a century ago to guard the Sasebo naval port. Moss-covered passageways now wind silently through the forest.
🚗 Access: Around the Sasebo area; several battery ruins (e.g. Ishiharadake) are open as parks.

4. 🌿 Ikeshima Coal Mine — Nagasaki（池島炭鉱）
The "last coal island" — one of Japan's final operating coal mines, closed in 2001. A sister island to Hashima, but still home to a handful of residents, with apartment blocks being slowly reclaimed by vines and trees. You can even tour the old mine.
