Japanese authorities are urging people to avoid Okinawa’s coastal areas because of a possible tsunami expected to arrive around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The wave height is estimated to reach 3 feet, according to a mass government text alert.

“Get out of the water and move away from the coast,” the 18th Wing at Kadena Air Base said in a social media post.

The Japan Meteorological Agency also issued a tsunami advisory along the southern and eastern coasts as far north as Chiba, east of Tokyo.

The warnings follow a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the southern Philippines at 7:37 a.m. local time, according to the agency.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was 15 miles west-southwest of Burias, and the quake was 22 miles deep.
