Welcome to another exciting episode of Gibbon Travelogue!

This time, we leave behind snowy landscapes and plan an unforgettable 11-day road trip across East Hokkaido in late spring.

Having visited Hokkaido several times during winter, we decide to experience a completely different side of Japan’s northern island, one filled with open roads, alpine scenery, pristine wilderness, incredible wildlife, seafood, flowers, and hidden gems.

In this video, we share exactly how we plan our route, choose our hotels, organise driving distances, and structure our itinerary across Furano, Daisetsuzan, Shiretoko, Kushiro, and Sapporo.

Along the way, we encounter brown bears, orcas, a fin whale, red-crowned cranes, cherry salmon, volcanic landscapes, and some of Hokkaido’s most beautiful scenery.

If you are planning to visit Hokkaido outside winter, we highly recommend East Hokkaido.

The scenery, wildlife, open roads and slower pace make this one of our favourite trips in Japan.
