A man from Kyoto has filed a lawsuit against a hospital in the city, claiming that his estranged wife presented someone else’s sperm as his and was able to undergo successful fertility treatment using it without his awareness.
The man is seeking damages of ¥11 million ($69,000) from the hospital for failing to perform sufficient confirmation before conducting the treatment.
At the first hearing of the suit at the Kyoto District Court on Wednesday, the hospital sought a dismissal, saying that it had provided the necessary explanations regarding the treatment.
