Chopping Firewood to Heat My Own Japanese Bath | Staying at NOIE, Wakayama
NOIE in Wakayama is a traditional Japanese stay where you can spend a night in a renovated old folk house and experience a way of life that is slowly disappearing from Japan.
NOIE has several old folk houses you can stay in, and we chose the one where you chop your own firewood, heat your own wood-fired bath, and warm the room with a wood stove. Everything is done by hand — just like people used to live here many years ago.
What surprised me the most was how peaceful it felt. NOIE is located in a quiet residential area, far from the noise of the city. You hear the sound of the fire, the water, and the wind. Nothing else.
Dinner was another highlight. Every dish was made with local ingredients and
prepared in a different way, and each one had a quiet, refined flavor that stayed with me long after the meal.
NOIE is not just a place to sleep. It is a place where you slow down and remember what it feels like to live simply.
If you are looking for a stay in Japan that goes beyond a regular hotel, I think you will love this place.
