Police arrested an Indonesian man on June 5 on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of an Indonesian woman the day before in Chitose in Hokkaido. 

The Chitose Police Station of the Hokkaido police announced the arrest of Mahmudi Agung Laksana Aji, a 27-year-old part-time worker, who claims to reside in Chiba Prefecture.

Aji has reportedly admitted to the allegations, telling investigators, “I stabbed her with the intent to kill.”

According to police, Aji is suspected of stabbing Sri Rahayu, 21, occupation unknown, who resides in Chitose’s Fuji 3-chome district, numerous times in the abdomen with a knife.

The attack occurred on a street in Shinano 1-chome, Chitose, at around 9:15 p.m. on June 4. Rahayu was rushed to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

In addition, a police officer and another man who attempted to restrain the suspect also suffered injuries, but were conscious, police said.

Aji and the deceased victim are believed to be acquaintances, and the police are currently searching for the motive behind the attack.

The crime scene is on a street located approximately two kilometers northwest of JR Chitose Station.
