Niigata Travel Vlog: Children’s Day by the Shinano River (Festivals & Local Fun) #travel
Welcome to Niigata, Japan — just around two hours from Tokyo by bullet train.
On May 5th (Children’s Day), the sky opened up in brilliant blue and the riverside came alive along the Shinano River. Flea markets, smiling families, and a festive atmosphere filled the riverbank — and yes, there were even futuristic robot rides that run like racehorses!
Children’s Day is celebrated across Japan to wish for children’s happiness and healthy growth. One of the most beautiful traditions is flying koinobori — carp-shaped streamers inspired by an old legend of a carp swimming upstream, symbolizing strength and perseverance.
If you’re planning a trip to Japan, come discover Niigata’s peaceful charm, seasonal culture, and unforgettable scenery.
