The woman who was a driving force behind the salvation and restoration of Japanese Hall will be honored this weekend.
On June 6, Vickie Sakurada Schaepler will receive the Conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun.
The award comes directly from the Emperor of Japan, and will be presented by the Japanese Consul General based in Chicago.
The ceremony will start at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Japanese Hall during the Legacy of the Plains museum’s 250th Anniversary event.
