We arrive in Hiroshima, Japan and spend the afternoon exploring one of the country’s most powerful and emotional destinations — the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum. From the Atomic Bomb Dome to the moving exhibits inside the museum, this part of our Japan journey gave us a deeper understanding of Hiroshima’s history, resilience, and message of peace.
The next morning, we hop on the train south and catch a ferry to the beautiful island of Miyajima, home to Japan’s famous floating torii gate at Itsukushima Shrine. We spend the day wandering the island, discovering scenic coastal views, friendly deer, historic temples, local street food, and some of the most stunning scenery in Japan.

私は日本人です。
子供の頃、祖父母から戦争当時の話をよく聞かされました。
また、私は広島県出身ではありませんが、私の地元には広島から移り住んできた若い女性がいて、その方から原爆当時の様子を何度も聞いたことがあります。
その方も被爆された方でした。
幼かった私に当時の様子を話してくださるたびに、大粒の涙を流していました。
「痛いよ、熱いよ、お母さん、お父さん、妹は……」
そのご家族は亡くなられたそうです。
その話を聞いたとき、私は子供ながらに、本当に想像を絶することが起きていたのだと強く感じました。
同時に、アメリカの方々の中にも、日本との戦争で大切な息子さんやご家族を亡くされた方がたくさんおられると思います。
どの国であっても、つい最近まで笑顔を見せてくれていた大切な家族を失うことは、胸を引き裂かれるような悲しみだと思います。

I don't think Japan holds a grudge against the United States. Rather, Japan has been reborn thanks to the United States. The Japanese people are serious and have a strong sense of justice, so they are where they are today because they seriously engaged in both war and postwar reforms.
I think everyone is kind because Japanese people respect and like Westerners who respect Japan, and they are a race that finds happiness in seeing people happy. That's why they dislike Chinese people who despise Japan.
