Mister Donut Japan has finally re-released their incredibly popular, viral new-texture donuts: the “Mochurin” series (all 3 flavors)!
When they first debuted last year, they were so violently popular that they completely sold out instantly, and I never even got to see them in stores. This time, I survived a chaotic 2-hour wait on the crashed online ordering system just to secure my first-ever Mochurin box!
The star of the showโthe doughโtakes the classic chewy “Pon de Ring” texture to the next level, combining extreme chewiness with a light, airy softness. It’s a special blend of mochi rice flour and regular rice flour with a unique glaze. The inside is actually hollow, and if you press it, it deflates and stays flat! Rather than a traditional donut, it feels much more like eating a traditional Japanese wagashi sweet. It was a total shock to my taste buds!

๐ก Mochurin Kinako (216 JPY)
A Japanese-style fluffy, chewy donut topped with roasted soybean (kinako) sugar. It has a wonderfully natural aroma and a gentle, comforting sweetness.
๐ฏ Mochurin Mitarashi (226 JPY)
Since the dough itself feels like mochi, this sweet-and-savory sweet soy glaze (mitarashi) is a match made in heaven. It honestly tastes like an incredibly airy, fluffy mitarashi dango (rice dumpling)!
๐ Mochurin Ichigo / Strawberry (237 JPY)
The gorgeous new flavor! The hollow inside is filled with a sparkling, translucent strawberry jam-like filling, and the top is drizzled with more strawberry glaze, whipped cream, and strawberry sugar. This is the only one that leans more toward a Western-style pastry.
They are definitely worth the hype! The texture is so uniquely bizarre for a donut, and itโs an absolute must-try experience.
