KYOTO (TR) – Kyoto Prefectural Police have launched an investigation after a young woman was found dead floating face down in the Kamo River in Kyoto City on Monday. As well, a teenage boy found nearby also rushed to the hospital, reports Fuji News Network (June 1).
According to the fire department, emergency services received a call at approximately 1:30 p.m. from a passerby who reported seeing a “person floating in the river” just south of the Sanjo Ohashi bridge in Nakagyo Ward.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the young woman floating face down in the water. She was pulled from the river in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest and transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, a teenage boy discovered on the adjacent riverbank was also taken to a hospital by ambulance. Authorities confirmed that he remained conscious.
Police are currently rushing to identify the deceased woman and are questioning the teenage boy to uncover the exact circumstances that led up to the fatal incident.
