I Took a 1:20 AM Cargo Ferry Alone in Japan | Kobe to Niihama
I took a cargo-focused ferry “Orange Hope” from Kobe to Niihama, Japan. This ferry is rarely taken by tourists. But I wanted to take it again to catch the beautiful sunrise over the Seto Inland Sea.

I do think that blanket is clean due to the pilling. If it was still soft and new looking, I would think it wasn't. That blanket has seen MANY washing machines.
Dog, that's a crappy ship
I would not have enjoyed that at all.
I would have froze cuz I would not use that blanket
That room was from the '60s but not in a good way
And the rattling. Ick. Hope you have a better trip next time.
Thanks for the video
You're traveling in a funny way. It feels like the apocalypse has happened and everyone has disappeared
Niihama Port is quieter than Ogasawara Port
Not so sure about those blankets
After the last one I saw?? The hair alone would've made me sick
I get it
But cheap is one thing
Hygiene is? Paramount
And that was gross as far as I could tell……
Most times the cabins are relatively clean but there have been a few that made me want to yak
Mostly? The capsules which is even worse because? They're used most likely
And I'm not kidding the hair on the pillow was enough to make me cry and wretch
So nope
Spring for the deluxe cabin every time
Being driven onto the truck deck is so cool. Few tourists ever get to see that.
Spectacular sunrise.
don't like it. no bathroom
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh… SoloTravelJapan-core 🥰🥰🥰
Beautiful sunrise. Such a nice adventure, thanks for sharing.
Might want to add some earplugs to your overnight bag for noisy trips like this in the future! ^.==.^
You do a great job, Solo-san. You are not a snob or a phony. Thank you for being real and being a human who knows not everyone is privileged. Salarypersons travel, too. You’re a good guy.
👋✌️🤘🥃
This is what ferries are like in the rest of the world—not many elsewhere are as elegant and cool as the Japan ferry lines! Thank you for reminding us! (I have very rarely been on a quiet ferry outside Japan. Ferries are working vessels, after all.) This ferry had clean bathrooms and clean but worn blankets. Not a bad vessel at all.
That was an adventurous trip; everything depended on perfect timing. The Sunrise was spectacular, with hues of orangey-red and the ships trailing behind, adding to the morning's splendour. A quiet sea in the morning is actually a favourite time for me, which I truly miss as I live in a landlocked area of Canada.
Thanks
Whoaa, earliest I've ever been to one of your videos! Love your channel!
I love going on these trips with you ❤
Best sunrise ever !! The accomodation was sort of prison like but only 7 hours, I guess it can be endured. The curry at the train station looked really good; too bad it was not a bit spicy.😋
I would have preferred a lockable door, but hey, the room itself is fine. For 7 hours, it's plenty. The sunrise is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing another great trip with us.
STJ, About halfway through this video I realized you are my favorite channel on YT. It is not just the travel, culture, and food. I cannot believe you survived a 7 hour journey on one "cup noodles". Thanks for the sunrise.
Boom, tap, tap, boom, tap, tap…. not exactly a lullaby. 😕
Thanks for the continued videos. They make my day.
I really like these videos. No shouty over the top hysterics just good filming. Zaza in china is ok as well.
Definitely more "industrial" than your usual suites and deluxe accommodations! But the price is right!
I bet those slippers have history too!!
Amazing trip😅😅😅
I am glad you are walking in the daytime this time. When you walk alone in the dark at night for a distance I always worry about you getting mugged or something. I realize Japan has very low crime rates but still you never know who is around. The curry looked delicious but minus the egg for me. Cheers.
Love your videos ❤❤❤❤
Reminds me of the early STJ videos, when you did a lot of capsule rooms, especially the blanket with history and making your own bed!
Niihama is beautiful and I wish I had that curry!
I always bring earplugs or Sony Quiet comfort headphones
STJ: My biggest mission on this trip is…
Me: Curry.
STJ: …to catch the beautiful sunrise over the Seto Inland Sea.
Me: …oh, yeah, nature, that's a thing, my apologies.
Question from Canada- Why does Japan have ferries between places that you can drive to, as well as ferries that take far from the shortest route between two ports?
I would think with you being about the only person in board they give you a better cabin. For sure tell them about the noise. No wonder few are riding in the ship.
Sun rise was beautiful. Tx
Why did YouTube hide this from me? It's not the most luxurious trip, but it seems better than the last ferry was despite that.
I went to a Japanese restaurant for lunch today… I had a beef curry in your honor.
That’s a nice boat…ferry.
The sunrise and curry at the end hit the spot. 👍
Your videos make me want to move to Japan and spend my last years riding the ferries.
Thanks.
After that tiny Cup-O-Noodle, the star was definitely the Pork Curry and Egg over Rice.
Well worth the 54 dollars in spite of the cabin noise! Thanks for the trip!
I can feel the history in this 21 year old boat. I love the dated design and the wasabi of a well used and maintained ship. Thank you for another good video. Enjoyed the sunrise.
I see why at 14:00 in the video Japan is called the Land of the Rising Sun.
7:10 That moldy vent tho 🙁
When you walked from the ferry to the train station, I thought it would have been interesting if you did one of those 15 second "speed run" parts that showed your entire walk route, but at 500 mph.
Worst start to a video ever 😢
I like the no rush now, hurry later. Another excellent video is in the can, That egg covered curry looked GREAT!
Nice trip. The sunrise was amazing. The curry looked delicious, as well. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
Sorry you couldn’t sleep! Maybe you should try earplugs for the noisy journeys! Perhaps that is why it is so affordable. The beautiful sunrise and scenery makes it worthwhile! Thank you for taking us with you!
