[$89 Tokyo Stay] Why Everyone Loves This Trendy Hotel & Exploring Retro Alley Izakayas 🍺

Kichijoji Excel Hotel Tokyu is just a 5-minute walk from Kichijoji Station’s North Exit — served by JR Chuo Line, Sobu Line, and Keio Inokashira Line. Rebranded under Tokyu Hotels in 2023, this sleek urban hotel greets you with a dramatic 15-meter-high atrium the moment you step into the lobby. Shinjuku is 15 minutes away, and Shibuya is just 15 minutes by express train — ideal for exploring Tokyo’s best neighborhoods.

Rooms start at 15㎡ for a Standard Double across 14 room types. Every room is equipped with a humidifying air purifier, keeping the space clean and comfortable throughout your stay. The rooms are arranged in a U-shape around the atrium, giving the hotel a quietly grand, open feel. Rates from approximately ¥13,900 per night (room only).

The basement level is home to a legendary bowling center that’s been part of Kichijoji since 1962 — fully renovated in 2022. On the 6th floor, the Active Room gym is open from 6:00 to 22:00 and even has a sparkling water dispenser. A co-working space on the 3rd floor adds to the hotel’s work-friendly setup. The hotel’s Green Coin & Green Card eco program rewards guests who opt out of daily room cleaning — a thoughtful touch.

Breakfast is served buffet-style at “LOUNGE & DINING SORAE” from 6:30 to 10:00. After breakfast, the Harmonica Yokocho retro alley, Iseya’s legendary yakitori, Inokashira Park, and Musashino Hachimangu Shrine are all within easy walking distance. A great base for exploring Kichijoji at a comfortable pace.

  2. Oh, such beautifully designed entry card! And the lift ride through the atrium… magnificent views! (probably not super great for people with fear of heights…)
The inside of the room, with bathroom window "peaking" into the room – is awkward, to say the least. And the curtain string hanging outside… hmmm! But the breakfast made an exceptionally good impression.
Generally Kichijoji struck me as a nice neighbourhood – with Musashino Hachimangu being a peaceful, blessed island for souls seeking comfort.
