Japan Travel Guide: Fukuoka Part 1 | Dazaifu Tenmangu & Hakata Ramen
In this video, I introduce two local travel highlights in Fukuoka, Japan: Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen.
First, we visit Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, one of the most famous shrines in Fukuoka. It is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, a real historical scholar and politician who is now known as the deity of learning. Many students and families visit this shrine to pray for success in exams.
You can also enjoy the shrine approach, ox statues, local shops, and Umegae Mochi, a traditional sweet connected to Dazaifu’s history.
Next, I introduce Fukuoka ramen. Fukuoka is known as the birthplace of tonkotsu ramen, and Hakata ramen is one of Japan’s most famous ramen styles. In this video, you will also learn about kaedama, meal tickets, noodle firmness, and Ramen Stadium inside Canal City Hakata.
