On May 27, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Lieutenant General Roger B. Turner, Commanding General, III Marine Expeditionary Force; Okinawa Area Coordinator.


At the outset, State Minister HORII expressed gratitude for Commander Turner’s contributions to strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance during his tenure, noting that Commander Turner will be departing his post this summer.
State Minister HORII stated that mitigating the impact on Okinawa including measures to prevent the recurrence of incidents and accidents is extremely important and that he is ready to continue working closely with the US Forces Japan.
Both sides exchanged views on the Japan-U.S. Alliance as well as regional issues and reaffirmed their continuous cooperation to strengthen the alliance.
Finally, State Minister HORII presented Commander Turner with a Certificate of Appreciation from Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on his behalf.
