  1. Thank you so much for your good advice!
When I was an elementary school student in Japan, we were taught to stay quiet on trains and buses so that visually impaired passengers—who may rely on audio announcements to know when to get off the station—would not have trouble.

  2. Great video, both your trips to Japan have been really helpful to plan for our trip later this year. When using Klook for Shinkansen how far ahead is it advised to book as I read elsewhere about tickets being only available a month in advance? Thank you.

  4. Very useful information here, thank you. I did tons of research when I visited Japan in 2019 and found that visiting in October worked out to be perfect. The weather was nice, places were less busy that other times of the year, and I got to see Mount Fuji from the Shinkansen twice when travelling between Osaka and Tokyo! This was back when the JR Rail Pass was still worth getting – unfortunately no longer the case. Glad to see Klook mentioned again. I used them got booking the Skyliner train from Narita Airport and they had a fantastic deal with a 72 hour Tokyo Metro card – the total price was cheaper than buying a Skyliner ticket in person!

I need to go back to Japan.

  5. A month ago we’ve been to Japan for 22 days during cherry blossom season. We have a great time because we stayed in my niece place. My brother picked us up in Narita airport. All the things that you said in your video are correct. When we went to Mount Fuji we have to be early because it’s going to rain about 11:00 am. It’s good that we are able to see it before it rains. We saw lots of places like Osaka, Kyoto, Yokohama, Nagoya, Odawara and some places that it’s hard to remember of course Mount Fuji. We’ve been to Tokyo 3 years ago and planning to go back because I haven’t been to Shinkansen, asakusa, Ueno and other places in Japan. Thank you for this video. Always stay safe and stay healthy. Godbless!

  7. "10 rules you MUST follow in Japan"

"10 things you NEED to know before you go to japan"

"Japan has become an over touristed hell hole"

I just got back from Japan, second trip, 18 days much of it during golden week.

There are so many lies and exaggerations on social media (including here) that even though I'd already been to Japan a couple years ago I started to fear these things were true. They just aren't.

I am sure there are challenges with over tourism in Japan for locals, but even during golden week I had a totally pleasant time, ate where I wanted, bought what I wanted, saw all the tourist attractions and busy places.

And then there's all the fear mongering about rules. People are so afraid about all the rules that they stress themselves out about getting them all right. Japanese people aren't some alien species, and I think a lot of these videos and discussions border on subconscious racism with the way they exaggerate these things. They have a distinct culture but for the most part it's all just common sense respect.

For example a few rules that videos treat as some sacred unbreakable covenant in Japan:

"You must walk on the left".

Yes locals generally walk on the left… but far from always. it's the same as any place, sometimes people break the flow for whatever reason or no reason at all. Just walk with the flow of people like you would anywhere.

    "Never eat while walking!"
ya probably looks a bit rude to be eating and walking, I didn't really do it but I saw Japanese people doing it. Just don't be gross.

    "Never talk on the train!"
Except that locals talk on the train all the time. For the most part they talk quietly to the person next to them, but sometimes they would be laughing and speaking loudly in a larger group. Is it quiet during the morning commute? Ya because commuters aren't sitting with friends. Just don't be loud and obnoxious.

All these hard and fast rules turn out to just be common sense respect. Use a little social awareness, follow what locals are doing, you'll be fine.

  10. What great tips Jay and Karolina from your experiences. So much quality information.
As always you give the very best advice both verbally and visually , your professionalism shines through
Thank You for Sharing Please Take Care and Stay Safe

  16. We have made many of the same mistakes and learned. You have put together a wonderful guide giving it a lot of thought. We planning to go back to Japan towards the end of the year.
Hope you guys are doing ok. Enjoy your time there. Sending you much love❤❤ from Cape Cod MA. Jim and Harriet

  17. Really helpful video, one again! Have got most of the apps (green suica on Apple Pay) which linked to SmartEx account. Tabelog, Payke, Google Maps and Translate installed along with Bounce and Flush. Airalo esim which I've used a lot. Go Taxi app but will need to find a way of getting the text message activation. Klook as well – good tip re booking early although Sibuya Sky only has two week booking window? Great tip re leaving Fuji tour until you know the weather – will leave until I arrive. Arriving Haneda and staying in Ginza. Need to sort out decent shoes! Thank you very much once again! Hopefully have covered most bases. 😊👍

  18. In Japan, it is best to assume that eating and drinking in crowded places is generally avoided. This is to prevent issues such as strong food odors, accidentally bumping into others, or spilling food and drinks on people's clothes.
While there are a few exceptions, the level of crowding is ultimately the best rule of thumb to judge whether it is okay to eat or drink.

  19. We got really lucky on our first trip to Japan. We went in early June and were there for 10 days. Only rained twice and one of those was at nite while we were in bed.
Plus was only really hot on one of those 10 days. Sadly on our 2nd trip. Halloween afternoon was a torrential rain storm. Kinda ruined the holiday.

  20. Thank you so much for sharing! This video was very informative. Would have loved to hear more of Karolina's thoughts about the trip!

Don't forget!

  22. You are both brilliant, if I get into the onsen naked I'd probably scare everyone lol 😱🫣 😂 they probably would think Halloween 👻🎃 has come early this year Hahaha. 😂😂Some really good advice but it's trial and error with basic etiquette there. 😁🤙

  25. Well… here is what I see… A culture enslaved by their phones? Just like here in America. You guys… I love ya, But you've made these videos before many times with advice for the travelers, but most people watching CAN'T travel, THAT'S why they're watching. But if I'm being honest as a viewer… to me, as an American, I guess I wish people traveling here or immigating here were this thoughtful about OUR culture, as you're being in Japan. Don't speak out loud and disturb others when out in public in Japan? In one way, that's very nice, but in another way it's very stiffeling. I just wish you guys would do some videos in America and show that on your channel. Travel our states, do the Route 66 Road Trip. I would imagine many of your followers are from the US. We would like to see you come here and tour our country. Do the road trip thing across America. Get a camper van and do it. It's beautiful, amazing countryside and views, diverse cultures all across America. Your fans might actually go crazy over it. Your viewership will definitely increase… And PS… let Karolina speak once in awhile, Jay. 😊
