Starting from Osaka Station at 6 AM, this walk explores Grand Green Osaka — a vast new urban park that opened in 2024 on the site of a former freight rail yard. The walk crosses South Park’s wide lawns, climbs the elevated promenade to North Park, passes the residential and hotel towers, and continues through Grand Front Osaka before ending back at South Park.

A walk through the newly-built heart of Osaka, where modern architecture, hotels, and 4.5 hectares of urban greenery have replaced what was once an industrial rail yard.

— ABOUT THIS WALK —
Umekita means “north of Umeda” — a long-planned redevelopment area north of Osaka Station.
Grand Green Osaka is the second phase of this project, following Grand Front Osaka, which opened in 2013.
The new park spans approximately 45,000 square meters, making it one of the world’s largest urban parks directly connected to a major terminal station.
The white-roofed pavilion seen in this walk was designed by SANAA (Sejima and Nishizawa and Associates), Pritzker Prize-winning architects known for their fluid, minimalist forms.
The full Grand Green Osaka complex is scheduled for completion in 2027.

A quiet walk through the new heart of Umeda.
