Six Senses Kyoto is celebrating Japan’s tea harvest season with a new limited-time matcha promotion that blends Kyoto’s historic tea traditions with the resort’s signature focus on wellness and sustainability.

Running through 20 June 2026, the experience spans the resort’s seasonal dining venues Sekki and Café Sekki, where guests can enjoy a collection of matcha-inspired afternoon teas, desserts and drinks carefully designed to reflect the atmosphere of spring in Kyoto.

The launch also extends into the spa with immersive wellness workshops inspired by traditional Japanese rituals.

At the centre of the seasonal programme is the Matcha Afternoon Tea, created in partnership with renowned Kyoto tea specialist Ippodo Tea.

Available exclusively during the traditional solar calendar period between Kokuu, also known as Grain Rain, and Boushu, or Grain Beards and Seeds, the experience draws inspiration from the annual tea harvest that has shaped Japanese culture for centuries.

Guests begin with Gyokuro “Rinpou”, a cold-brewed tea selected for its rich umami flavour and delicate aroma. From there, the afternoon tea introduces a series of refined sweet and savoury creations that reinterpret classic Japanese ingredients through a contemporary lens.

Matcha and white chocolate scones sit alongside citrus tartlets, amazake verrines and marinated salmon trout wrapped with matcha, while desserts including hojicha cream daifuku and sencha dacquoise explore the depth and complexity of Japanese tea flavours.

The experience reflects the resort’s “Eat With Six Senses” philosophy, which focuses on natural ingredients, sustainable sourcing and wellness-conscious dining.

Every item on the menu has been created to be gluten-free while traditional fermentation techniques, including amazake cream and brown rice preparation, add both nutritional value and layers of flavour inspired by Japanese culinary heritage.

Throughout the season, guests are also invited to connect more closely with Kyoto’s tea traditions through tea harvesting experiences hosted at the resort.

Tea plants are cultivated alongside organically grown herbs and vegetables on-site, reinforcing the property’s emphasis on sustainability and mindful living.

Alongside the afternoon tea, Six Senses Kyoto has introduced its first Matcha Parfait, a visually striking dessert inspired by karesansui, the carefully composed landscapes of Japanese Zen rock gardens.

Available at Sekki, Café Sekki and Nine Tails, the parfait combines layers of rich matcha sauce, granola and matcha agar jelly with Kiyomi orange, hojicha cream and matcha ice cream.

Red bean paste, black beans and shiratama mochi complete the dessert, balancing sweetness, bitterness and acidity in a way that mirrors the precision often associated with Kyoto cuisine.
