A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Hokkaido’s Kushiro area in Japan on Thursday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The quake occurred at 7.13am local time at a depth of 30 kilometers. The maximum intensity recorded was a lower 3 on Japan’s seismic scale. There is no tsunami risk.

This follows several recent earthquakes of magnitude 5 or higher in the Hokkaido region.
