At Flower Hill in Showa Kinen Park, which spans Tachikawa and Akishima in Tokyo, Shirley poppies are now in full bloom. Many families can be seen taking photos amid a vivid red carpet of flowers under clear blue skies.

Around 1.8 million poppies are blooming across roughly one hectare. According to park officials, they reached full bloom about a week earlier than usual.

A company employee from Suginami Ward visited the park with his family. “We always come here to play with our two children. Today we came to the flower field after hearing the blossoms were at their best,” he said. His son smiled and added, “It was so pretty!”

The flowers are expected to remain at their peak until around mid-May.
