Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Japan Marieta Arabadjieva held meetings with the administration of Hokkaido University during a visit to Hokkaido Prefecture on May 13, the Embassy of Bulgaria in Japan reported on its Facebook page on Friday.

Arabadjieva met with the University President, Prof. Kiyohiro Houkin, and the associate dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Masanori Takezawa, and Assoc. Prof. Kenta Sugai, who is teaching Bulgarian language at the university.

The Ambassador expressed her gratitude for the long-standing support for Bulgarian studies at the university. Opportunities for future cooperation and development of the programme were also discussed.

The Japanese side expressed appreciation for the financial support provided by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science for the development of Bulgarian studies through scholarships for students participating in summer seminars on Bulgarian language and culture in Bulgaria.

During the meeting, the participants also discussed opportunities for exchange programmes in fields related to information technology and artificial intelligence.

Ambassador Arabadjieva also met with students majoring in Bulgarian studies. She expressed her gratitude for their interest in the Bulgarian language and culture and invited them to participate in the Bulgarian language public speaking contest, summer seminars for students of Bulgarian studies, as well as exchange programmes for study in Bulgaria.

The meeting was also attended by Kristian Michailov, Bulgarian volleyball coach in Japan, who presented information about Bulgarian sports and opportunities for academic exchange in the field of sports between Bulgaria and Japan.
