TOKYO (Kyodo) — U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres will make a four-day visit to Japan from Sunday, during which he will meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, the Foreign Ministry said.
Guterres will attend a gathering of U.N. executives being held in Asia for the first time, with meetings with Emperor Naruhito and Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi also planned during the trip, the ministry said Thursday.
The U.N. chief’s visit is expected to strengthen cooperation between Japan and the United Nations, the ministry said, with this year marking the 70th anniversary of Japan’s admission to the organization.
