Japan has announced that United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit the country next week.

The government says Guterres will be in Japan from Sunday through Wednesday.

During his four-day trip, he is scheduled to participate in UN-related events in Tokyo and meet Emperor Naruhito. He will also have talks with Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of Japan joining the UN. The government hopes to further enhance cooperation with the global body through the secretary-general’s visit.
