Do people think it’s worth the hype or not? For me as a tourist, I think it’s incredible. The milk bread + egg salad combo are so soft and comforting. A simple but happy snack

It’s a novelty that wears off the more you have it imo. It’s good don’t get me wrong, but the hype is odd. There’s other great conbini sandwiches but these are so super hyped people just skip all the others it’s weird.

  2. Nope. It’s average at best. Maybe good for a road trip or beach picnic but that’s it. Much better food out there.

Amazing for what they are but you look like a complete idiot when gushing about a $2.50 egg sandwich because objectively it’s an ok egg sandwich at a slightly cheap price.

If you have access to shokupan (milk bread) and Japanese mayo, you can make the exact same thing at home. It’s a decent egg sandwich, and a great quick meal, but it’s nothing magical.

Yes! But I love the maple butter pancakes more.

No bad, but not the greatest thing in the history of the universe

It’s really good. I tried making it at home but no dice

I think they’re good…they suddenly popped up at a 7/11 in the states where I live.

It’s worth it to try at least once to see that Japan has high food quality standards even at the bottom of the culinary ladder. Since this is the ladder, if you climb it, you will get even better food in Japan. Some travelers to Japan hit up Konbinis every day, they are missing out on some amazing culinary experiences Japan has to offer

I liked it! Not sure if there should be hype but the hype helps to let people know it’s actually decent food—alongside all the other goodies in 7/11 in Japan! On the flip side, in America I would never walk into any convenience store and think the egg salad sandwich would be of a remotely decent quality. You’d probably be on the toilet 5 minutes after your first bite.

Lawsons way better. But just make it at home. Egg + kewpie done. So overpriced at 7-11

It’s a 250 yen sandwich that tastes fine and is barely under the line for junk food. The discourse around it is absurd given the fact that anyone can try it for less than 2 bucks.

A had a couple of them shortly after they arrived in Alberta Canada, the egg salad sandwiches they had before were better and had more filling than the Japanese ones which are a bit disappointing.

  14. It’s a three dollar sandwich…it’s good but and easy to find…but some folks blow it waaay outta proportion LOL.

  15. McKnackus

At the end of the day, it’s still just an egg sandwich.

The first time I went to Japan I could hardly afford to go out to eat aside from 7-Eleven (studied abroad there) and I just kept coming back to this because it was good, cheap, and weirdly consistent. Now I probably talk about it like the Mecca of sandwiches just because it ended up being an item I always came back to.

For me the japanese bread is always too sweet so for me it’s only ever a late night had-drinks-but-didn’t eat last-train snack.

The gushing on them by tourists makes me wonder how bad the food is back home haha

The is was on my list to try while in Japan. It was just fine. Too sweet for me but good quality. The fruit ones I enjoyed much more. My favorite was the fried chicken cutlet from 7-11 tho, just wild that you can get that quality from a 7-11.

I prefer the ¥299 egg sandwich at My Basket.

  20. dkwinsea

I tho k they are creamy and delicious. A nice and cheap little treat for me.

  21. dat_mane47

It’s good but I wouldn’t waste my stomach space in Japan on 7-11 food.

  22. nize426

I mean, it’s just egg and mayo with msg.
Not something particularly mind blowing I think.

  23. ellekacy

The way most people talk about the egg sandos is how I talk about the onigiris 🤭

I prefer mine from the grocery stores here in Japan, but I do enjoy them. Actually just ate one as part of my lunch ten minutes ago.

  25. smorkoid

It’s a mass produced fast food sandwich. There’s nothing at all special about it

  26. jacquesk18

    Comfort food.
I wasn’t especially enamored them when I lived there and don’t seek them out when I visit but when I’m hungry and don’t want to go all the way to Yoshinoya they recently do hit the right spot. So I end up eating them a few times a week. And I do miss them when I’m back in the states.

I mean … Yeah, but only just? It’s a hell of a good convenience store sandwich. I recommend it as part of a 7-11 picnic. I’m also deeply aware that X days in Japan only gives you Y meals to enjoy, and in my view, you should not waste a bite or a moment.
