IHG Hotels & Resorts has entered a partnership with Fuji Kyuko to convert Hotel Mount Fuji into the third Vignette Collection hotel in Japan.

Originally opened in 1963, the 150-room property stands on Mount Odeyama at a height of 1,100m, facing Mount Fuji and overlooking Lake Yamanaka.

The renovation of Hotel Mount Fuji will begin before it reopens under the Vignette Collection brand.

The hotel will join Righa Royal Hotel Osaka and The Windsor Hotel Toya as part of the growing Vignette Collection portfolio in Japan, which now comprises more than 79 open and pipeline properties worldwide.

Facilities at the renovated Hotel Mount Fuji will include several dining options, hot springs, a sauna, and a swimming pool.

Guests will also have access to recreational activities such as golf, lake excursions, and visits to attractions such as Oshino Hakkai, a World Heritage site in the local area.

The hotel is accessible by car from Tokyo in approximately two hours.

Travellers can also take a bus from Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal, arriving in two hours and 20 minutes, with a shuttle service scheduled to meet arriving guests.

The conversion forms part of IHG’s strategy to increase the presence of its Vignette Collection brand throughout Japan.

IHG Hotels & Resorts Japan and Micronesia managing director Abhijay Sandilya said: “We’re delighted to partner with Fuji Kyuko for the first time, to introduce a third iconic hotel in Japan to our Vignette Collection brand.

“Hotel Mount Fuji is a very special destination – a one-of-a-kind property steeped in history, in a stunning and unique location where guests experience never-to-be-forgotten stays. Our collaboration marks a significant milestone in the expansion of IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in Japan.”

Last month, IHG signed long-term franchise deals to rebrand 11 hotels across Germany, France and Belgium.
