Kagoshima is Japan’s southern wild card — a city that shares a bay with an active volcano, claims its own shochu culture, and sits on the doorstep of mythic hot-spring mountains.
Day 1 — Settle in with Sengan-en’s 350-year-old borrowed-scenery garden, take in the full bay panorama from Shiroyama Hill, then eat your way through Tenmonkan’s covered arcades (Kurobuta tonkatsu first, shochu after).
Day 2 — Ferry across Kinko Bay to Sakurajima. Cycle through lava fields from the 1914 eruption, soak your feet in the volcano-heated foot bath at Yōgan Nagisa Park, then walk the Iso Beach promenade back in the city at golden hour with the volcano smoking across the water.
Day 3 — Head into the Kirishima mountains: vermillion Kirishima Shrine set among ancient cedars, then soak in sulphur-rich onsen waters with mountain mist rolling through.

Which stop would you hit first — the volcano, the onsen, or the Kurobuta? Drop your pick below. If this route helped, tell me your city and I'll map one next.
