A practical 3-day route through Aomori and Hirosaki in spring — peak sakura season in Tohoku.
Day 1 — Hirosaki Park & Castle Moats
Walk through 2,600 cherry trees on the old castle grounds, row under a petal tunnel on the West Moat, and see why Hirosaki’s ancient branches create a sakura canopy that younger parks can’t match.
Day 2 — Temple Quarter to Aomori Waterfront
Start among the 33 Zen temples of Zenringai, wander the red-brick storehouses of Nakachō, then hop a 40-minute train to Aomori city for giant Neputa festival floats and live shamisen at Tsugaru-han Neputa-mura.
Day 3 — Art, Archaeology & Panoramic Views
Yoshitomo Nara’s Aomori Dog at the Museum of Art, a 5,000-year-old Jomon settlement at San’nai-Maruyama, and a sweeping Mutsu Bay view from the ASPAM observation deck to close it out.
