A unique tea ceremony has been held on the back of a lavishly decorated truck known as “dekotora” in Kyoto City.

Organizers including an art team formed by business leaders in Kyoto, held the event in front of Higashi Honganji, a Buddhist temple in the city, on Saturday.

The truck was decorated entirely in gleaming chrome, including the inside of the cargo area, which was set up as a tea room with a hanging scroll.

The representative of the art team, Shimada Akisato, served tea as the host.

Visitors to the temple watched with curiosity as the tea ceremony was performed in the shiny truck.

Shimada said he hopes the sense of strangeness caused by the tea room will spark interest among people unfamiliar with the Japanese tea ceremony.
