3 Million visitors come see this every year in August – How to enjoy Aomori Nebuta Matsuri
If you think visiting Japan in August isn’t pleasent, you might be missing a lot from our nation.
Aomori’s Nebuta Festival is one of Japan’s most iconic celebrations — and one of the few that can truly leave you speechless.
Every August, around 3 million visitors gather to watch gigantic illuminated floats, energetic dancers, and taiko drums take over the streets of Aomori City.
Despite being one of the most famous festivals in all of Japan, Nebuta surprisingly remains under-discovered among international travelers.
And that’s a shame — because there’s nothing quite like seeing these massive lantern floats glowing against the summer night sky.
