A practical 3-day summer itinerary through Furano and Biei in Hokkaido, Japan — covering lavender fields, the Blue Pond, Patchwork Road, and more.

Day 1 – Furano
Start at Farm Tomita, where tiered lavender rows have drawn visitors since a single JR Hokkaido calendar photo accidentally put the place on the map. Stop by the Furano Cheese Factory for locally made camembert and gouda, then wind down at Ningle Terrace as the lanterns come on.

Day 2 – Biei
Drive into Biei for the Shirogane Blue Pond — an unplanned side effect of erosion-control dams that turned vivid blue and ended up on an Apple wallpaper. Pair it with Shirahige Waterfall, then cruise Patchwork Road where wheat, potatoes, and sugar beets create a color-block landscape by accident.

Day 3 – Furano & Nakafurano
Ride the chairlift over lavender at Hokuseiyama, explore 15 hectares of sequential blooms at Shikisai-no-oka, and close the trip at Asahigaoka Park with an unbraded panoramic view of the Furano basin.
