Rode my bicycle on the Shimanami Kaido. Started in Onomichi and cycled the connecting islands to Imabari. I wanted to hang out a little so I decided to take an island hopping ferry over to Habu Port on Innoshima Island. I then rode 15 miles back over the Innoshima bridge to Mukaishima Island.

This is without a doubt, my most favorite solo activity that I have ever done in my life. The scenery of the islands and the smell of the sea breeze as you cross everything is surreal. Due to my schedule, I had no choice, but to return the same day, but I recommend that if you are able to, take the time to explore these wonderful islands. You won't be disappointed!

Did this 10 years ago in peak rain. Rented the bike from a local bike shop. Was still worth it!

I just did it for the first time on Tuesday, starting from Onomichi. It was brilliant, probably the most beautiful part of Japan I’ve ever seen. I think I’ll write a trip review at some point bc alot of the advice I found on reddit was of mixed usefulness. How’d you find it physically? I was perfectly fine for most of it and I even managed the climbs up to the bridges (cross bike with no assist) but then when I got to Oshima the hills were killing me. I did the ocean explorer route the long way round via the rose garden and by the time I got to Imabari I basically collapsed into the hotel bed lol. Took 8hrs 40mins overall including a few sightseeing stops.
