HOKKAIDO (TR) – Police have arrested a un unemployed man on suspicion of murder after he allegedly strangled his 95-year-old mother during a deadly outing in Mikasa City, reports Nippon News Network (May 7).
Hiromitsu Kashima, 68, is accused of strangling his mother, Sumiko, inside a parked car between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
According to police and facility staff, Kashima picked his mother up from the elderly care home where she resided under a heartwarming guise. He reportedly told the staff, “I want to take her to see the cherry blossoms, is it okay if we go out?”
Instead of a scenic drive, police believe Kashima strangled the elderly woman in the vehicle before driving back to his own residence.
The discovery was made when another family member found Sumiko collapsed near the car and alerted the authorities. Emergency responders arrived to find her unconscious and not breathing. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was subsequently pronounced dead.
Upon questioning on suspicion of murder, Kashima fully admitted to the allegations.
The tragic killing has left the local community stunned. “He is such a quiet person,” one neighbor told reporters. “I just can’t imagine it. Was he driven into a corner?”
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact motive and the circumstances that led up to the fatal incident.
