The Gist
Naomi Osaka made a dramatic arrival at the 2026 Met Gala on May 4.
The tennis legend looked unrecognizable in a sculptural white hat, matching coat dress, and blood red hands. She later revealed a Swarovski crystalized gown that took 3,280 hours to make.
The evening’s theme is “Fashion is Art.”
Game, set, match, Naomi Osaka. If the Met Gala 2026 were a game, the tennis legend would’ve taken it all home. Osaka made a dramatic arrival on the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps in a striking Robert Wun Couture ensemble that was peak theater.

With tennis icon Venus Williams (who is co-chairing the fundraiser alongside Nicole Kidman and Beyoncé) also in attendance, Osaka knew she needed to give it her all, and she did just that.
The 28-year-old aced the “Fashion is Art” theme and “Costume Art” dress code in a huge white sculptural hat and matching coat dress, which featured architectural shoulders, hidden buttons, and a trailing, cape-like skirt. Both pieces were studded with wispy red feathers and rendered Osaka basically unrecognizable.

But that’s not all, peaking from beneath her hemline was what appeared to be a red gown and matching sheer opera gloves. She later removed her coat to reveal the figure-hugging red dress, which had a sultry lace-up back and embroidered Swarovski crystals, which took a whopping 3,280 hours of handwork. She added a gem statement ring and matching earrings, courtesy of Lagos.

As for beauty, glimpses beneath Osaka’s headwear revealed her dark brunette curls, which were styled in an effortless updo. She glammed up with stunning glowy makeup, complete with sun-kissed cheeks, glossy lips, shimmering eyeshadow, and long manicured nails.

This is quite the comeback for Osaka, who last attended the event in 2021, when she was a co-chair. Then, she made another statement in a custom Louis Vuitton outfit designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, her sister Mari Osaka, and herself. The incredible ensemble celebrated her Japanese and Haitian heritage, featuring a koi fish print, red sash, corset bodice, center slit skirt, and black ruffle cape. She styled her hair in gravity-defying twisted braids and two ponytails, studded with gorgeous red gems.
