HOKKAIDO (TR) – Police in Otaru City have arrested a 41-year-old unemployed man for allegedly obstructing police duties after he bombarded a local station with more than 100 nuisance calls, reports TV Asahi (May 6).

The unnamed suspect’s calling spree to the Otaru Police Station began on April 16. According to police, the calls were heavily concentrated during the evening, late night and early morning hours.

Upon his arrest, the suspect partially denied the allegations, claiming he had a valid reason for the harassment.

“There is no mistake that I made the calls,” the man told investigators. “However, it was justified.”

During the calls, the man reportedly taunted officers, demanding, “Come right now. Hurry up and come bust me.”

In several instances, the suspect fabricated incidents to draw a police response, including making false claims. “I was beaten by a police officer,” he said more than one time. Officers responded to the man’s location to investigate each time he made such claims.

Police eventually arrested the man, stating that the sheer volume of his calls had severely interfered with the station’s ability to carry out its regular duties.
